Red-tailed hawks are opportunistic predators out in the wild and eat a variety of other animals including small rodents, squirrels, lizards, snakes, mice, rats, quail, and small birds. On average, red-tailed hawks are thought to live 12-15 years out in the wild. Red-tailed hawks are solitary and have little social interaction with other hawks, other than during nesting season.
